Ian Paisley.

A book of condolence is to open in Derry’s Guildhall from tomorrow for people who want to pass on their sympathies to Ian Paisley’s family.

Derry’s Mayor Brenda Stevenson paid tribute to the former DUP leader and First Minister who died this morning at the age of 88. He had been ill for some time.

Mayor Stevenson said while she did not share many of Dr.Paisley’s political views, she admired his tireless commitment and energy to working for the best for the people of Northern Ireland.

She said Dr. Paisley had played a huge part in shaping the political and religious views of Northern Ireland and his legacy would be felt for many decades.

“Dr. Paisley had a huge personality who worked tirelessly throughout his career for the benefit of every member of the community.

‘He was known for his dedication to his constituents and his death is a significant blow to everyone who knew him.

“I always admired his energy and exuberance for politics and I am truly sad at the news of his death.”
