Pre-race favourite Gary Murray put in an impressive performance to record a comfortable win in today’s annual Waterside Half Marathon held in Derry.
The St Joseph’s Boys School (Creggan) teacher, who runs for St Malachy’s Athletic Club in Belfast, broke the tape in 1.08.01 to win the 33rd running of the event.
City of Derry Spartan posted a personal best of 1.08.12 to take the runners-up spot for the second year in a row.
Foyle Valley’s Scott Rankin also recorded a personal best of 1.08.50 to take third place.
Former Lifford AC athletic, Ann Marie McGlynn, now unattached. won the ladies race in 1.17.21 ahead of Fiona Stack from Raheney.
A record entry of almost 2,000 runners competed in the event cheered on by hundreds more spread over the 13.1 mile course which left and finished at the Gransha grounds.
