Cllr Christopher Jackson.

Cllr Christopher Jackson.

Residents in the Waterside area of Derry have been urged to be on alert after a spate of  burglaries in the area.

Sinn Féin Waterside Councillor Christopher Jackson said bikes and garden tools left outside were have also been stolen.

Cllr Jackson said: “I have spoken to one local resident who has been left badly shaken after finding a number of people acting suspiciously outside her home.

“I would urge anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation or hears, sees anything suspicious outside their home to call the police straight away.

“Thieves have no respect for you or your property; helping to catch them is the best way of safeguarding your own property and your neighbours.”

Cllr Jackson appealed  to anyone with information or who may have seen anything in their area to pass it on to the PSNI.

He concluded: “People like this cannot be allowed to prey on our community.”
