Noel O’Donnell (20) made a welcome return to the winner’s enclosure at City of Derry Golf Club on Saturday in Club Stableford after “pulling out all the stops” by scoring 43 points to finish on top.
Three players recorded 42 points and the tie break went in favour of in form Eric Watson (17) who was second with third place going to David Bradley (13).
Both of those players had an impressive 23 points on their front nine with Watson’s better last six holes deciding the issue.
A 70 gross and 37 points was James Lindsay’s (0) winning best gross.
McCLELLAND EMERGES WINNER IN THREE-WAY TIE
Stuart McClelland emerged the winner of the weekly Thursday Open at City of Derry Golf Club after less than three players recorded the same score of 41 points.
Seven-handicapper Stuart’s 22 points on the back nine proved decisive, back to back birdies on holes 11 and 12 helping in no small measure.
Mark Gordon (14) continued his recent good form to take the second prize with 20 points on his back nine and third place went to Richard Hamilton (16) who had a remarkable 25 points on his front nine and looked to be coasting to overall success until an ugly blank on the last hole cost him dearly.
Newtonstewart member Stephen Henderson (9) was the best visitor with a fairly modest 33 points and Kealan Quigg (0) won the best gross with a level par 71 and 36 points.
HASSON LAW CLASSIC
City of Derry embers are reminded that Hasson Law are sponsoring this Saturday’s (20th September) team Classic for Ladies and Men (any combination), best two scores to count at each hole.
