Folk sensation Foy Vance, Dublin rock ‘n’ roll sensations Rock Sprockets and acclaimed local singer-songwriter Paul Casey have been confirmed for this Sunday night’s Music City Showcase being staged in Derry this weekend.
A host of local acts will also take to a number of venues throughout city, bringing music to the banks of the Foyle for a third night and provide an alternative to the MTV Crashes events on Friday and Saturday.
Mayor of Derry, Cllr Brenda Stevenson, said she was “delighted” with the line-up.
She said: “There really is something to suit every musical taste over the course of the weekend, and while Friday and Saturday will have huge appeal for younger audiences, Sunday night covers all genres.
“This year. Derry has firmly established its reputation as Music City, and this is the ideal time to come and see what the city is all about.”
Bangor-born Foy Vance, who has toured with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Snow Patrol and Ed Sheerin while honing his own distinctive melancholic style, will play the atmospheric Glassworks venue.
Hot Sprocketts’ revolutionary take on rock’n’roll has catapulted them on to the forefront of the Irish music scene, garnering plenty of recognition from the critics along the way.
They will join Old Hannah at Sandino’s.
Derry will be well represented on the night by well-known local singer/song writer Paul Casey, who will take to the stage at the City Hotel, for a set that’s guaranteed to draw a dedicated crowd of local music fans.
Meanwhile, the Playhouse will be packed with local talent, with top music courtesy of the Wood Burning Savages, the Wonder Villains and Glenn Rosborough and his band. And younger music fans will be turning out in force to see Britain’s Got Talent star Jordan O’Keefe at Pitchers Restaurant.
The weekend fun kicks off on Friday September 19 with the MTV Crashes event at Ebrington, featuring Afrojack, Professor Green, Katy B and MNEK, hotly followed on Saturday night with an MTV Club DJ night, led by Chase and Status and DJ Fresh, with more talent still to be announced.
And to add to the musical mix over the weekend, as part of the Guinness Amplified line-up, Pablo n Red play Peadar O’Donnells on Saturday at 5.00pm, while Sandinos hosts Crow Black Chicken at the same time.
On Sunday at 7.00pm, the Metro will welcome the White Male Actors, followed at 8.30pm by Wild Promises.
Also taking place are a whole series of cultural events during Culture Night (Friday) and the CultureTECH digital festival (September 15-21).
