A 23 year old man was arrested after police seized suspected drugs with a street value of around £60,000 in Derry this afternoon.
PSNI Area Commander, Chief Inspector Tony Callaghan, said the man was detained after officers recovered a haul of suspected herbal cannabis when they stopped a car travelling in the Ballymagroarty area.
The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class B drugs and possession of class B drugs with intent to supply and is currently in custody helping police with their enquiries.
CI Callaghan said: “I would like to praise the work of the officers involved in removing a significant quantity of drugs from the city’s streets and I would also appeal to anyone with any information about illegal drugs to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
The arrest was the third made in the city for drugs offences in a 24 hour period and the eighth in the last six days.
CI Callaghan said the arrests and seizures underlined the determination of police to tackle drugs issues in the city.
