X Factor judge Louis Walsh visited Derry today as a guest at the North West Regional College to media and music students.
Sharing his words of wisdom, the creator of the famed boy-bands Westlife and Boyzone, advised the students on the best pathways into a successful career in the music industry.
Ryan Kelly, was one of the media trainees at the event.
He said: “It was an enjoyful experience seeing Louis today, he’s a big figure across Ireland, and he’s a big international figure, so I was a bit star struck to be in a room with him.”
“I learned some personal things about him to start with, I actually thought he was a Belfast man, so I was quite shocked to hear that he was actually from County Mayo.”
“He told us about how he moved up to Dublin to pursue a career in music, and how he dropped out of school early, so all that was really interesting.”
Suggesting he may take inspiration from the celeb visitor, the 18 year old concluded: S”He made reference to the fact that, in his view, you have to move to places like Dublin or London in order to build contacts, and to get access to greater resources, so if I could do that from a journalism stand point then I’ll probably take his advice.”
