A new £300,000 revitalisation scheme has been announced for Limavady in Co Derry.
The scheme will be used to enhance retail premises in Main Street and Linenhall Street.
Some 26 businesses will benefit from the improvements which include the replacement of windows, drainpipes and guttering and the painting of shop fronts.
The work is due to start shortly.
The scheme, which has been jointly developed by the Department for Social Development and Limavady Borough Council, will complement the previous investment by DSD to upgrade Catherine Street, Market Street and Linenhall Street.
Welcoming the investment from the Department, Limavady Mayor Alan Robinson said the scheme was a “generous offer” to the businesses of the town.
He said: “Limavady, like every other small town, has had its fair share of troubles during recent economic times.
“This funding from the Department is as much a recognition of the importance of retail to our lives, as it is of the importance of our market towns.
“I encourage all eligible premises owners to engage with this scheme in our final year as Limavady Borough Council; we’re not only leaving a legacy, but also a platform for future schemes to build upon.”
Announcing funding for the scheme, Social Development Minister Nelson McCaudsland said it was important for the Department to give assistance to towns whose businesses and people “work so hard” to preserve the ethos and identity of their community.
He added: “In Limavady the Chamber of Commerce and Limavady Borough Council have to continually seek new and innovative ideas to keep the town alive and prosperous. This funding will further improve the attractiveness of this beautiful market town and help it recover from the economic downturn.”
