Limavady Sinn Féin Councillor Rory Donaghy has reminded East Derry DUP MP Gregory Campbell that the Co Derry town’s council “actually passed” a motion declaring support for stopping welfare cuts.
Cllr Donaghy said: “Gregory Campbell in the Assembly today attempted to portray the notion that the people of Limavady were in support of welfare cuts when in fact they are opposed to them.
“Not only did the council overwhelmingly support a motion calling for an end to welfare cuts but on Saturdaythousands of people across the constituency took part in a day of action against more austerity measures.”
Cllr Donaghy concluded: “Rather than attempting to mislead the public Gregory would be better joining with us in protecting people who are being forced into poverty.”
