First Minister Peter Robinson has denied he has any plans to quit the Northern Ireland Assembly.
The DUP leader was responding to claims by former Health Minister Edwin Poots that he was to quit before next year’s election.
Mr Poot’s made the claim 24 hours after being axed as Health Minister by Mr Robinson.
In a statement, Mr Robinson said he had not plans to stand down “neither now, nor before the assembly election.
“The public and media can be confident that when I decide such a moment has arrived I will be the one to make the announcement.”
He added: “I repeat the comments I have previously made that I will continue to lead as long as the party and the electorate in East Belfast wish me to do so.”
