Another name change row is set for the council chamber of Derry’s Guildhall.
The newly-formed Derry-Strabane “Super Council” will later today discuss a proposal to name the local authority as Foyle District Council.
Strabane Ulster Unionist Cllr Derek Hussey will forward a motion at today’s meeting calling for new legislation to be introduced permitting the name change.
The council, which will take over power from Derry City Council and Strabane District Council in April next year, has temporarily been named Derry City and Strabane District Council, but it is not its legal name.
Cllr Hussey’s proposal reads: “I propose that with regard to the presently named Derry and Strabane District Council this Council request that legislation be brought forward permitting Council to be named Foyle District Council and that, such legislation being introduced, the Council should be so named.”
