Action has been taken to ensure there is no repeat of last month’s incident at City of Derry Airport when holidaymakers arriving back from Spain were left to wait up to two hours because there was no one to man the passport control checkpoint.
Foyle SDLP MP Mark Durkan has received a letter from the Director General of Border Force Charles Montgomery expressing his “disappointment” passengers experienced such a delay and that “standard operating procedures” had been strengthened at the airport.
Mr Durkan said: “I welcome these assurances concerning future passenger experiences – and that action has now been taken to ensure there is no repeat of this situation.
“It is important that Standard Operating Procedures have been strengthened and that citizens and visitors to our city don’t have that bad experience again.”
