Ulster Unionist Councillor Derek Hussey’s attempt to get the newly-formed Derry-Strabane “Super Council” named Foyle District Council collapsed when his motion before the temporarily-named Derry City and Strabane District Council failed to get the support of councillors at meeting of the Shadow Council earlier today.
Cllr Hussey’s motion read: “I propose that with regard to the presently named Derry and Strabane District Council this Council request that legislation be brought forward permitting Council to be named Foyle District Council and that, such legislation being introduced, the Council should be so named.”
However, no councillors seconded the motion which led to presiding councillor Maolíosa McHugh announcing it had “failed.”
