An elderly Derry couple were alerted to an early morning fire in their home by a smoke alarm, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service have said.
Crews from Northland and Crescent Link stations responded to the blaze in an end-terraced house at the Woodlands in the Culmore area shortly before 1.30am yesterday.
A frying pan fire was out on arrival of firefighters.
Two elderly residents were checked over by paramedics at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Fire Service said “activated” smoke alarms alerted occupiers to the fire.
