East Derry Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has called for the construction of a recreation centre in Dungiven to go ahead “as soon as possible.”
Mr Ó hOisín has tabled an adjournment debate at Stormont to discuss the issue.
He said: “The current centre in Dungiven is totally unsuitable for the current needs and I would doubt it even meets basic safety standards as the roof is leaking the wooden floor is lifting and it does not meet disability access criteria.
“Dungiven has a strong sporting history and this new centre is needed if we are to continue that tradition.”
Mr Ó hOisín concluded: “The Minister of Culture Arts and Leisure Carál Ní Chuilín has already promised match funding for a new build so the new super council of Causeway Coast and Glens needs to give a similar commitment so the project can proceed as soon as possible.”
