Derry Sinn Féin will next week to select its Foyle candidate in next May’s Westminister Election.
Nominations for candidates are now open and will close at 7.30pm on Monday, 72 hours before the a selection convention taking place on in the Tower Hotel on Thursday next.
Party chairperson in the city, Charles Lamberton, said he was looking forward to the selection of a “strong candidate” who would put forward an “ambitious vision” of job creation and delivery for the Foyle constituency and the wider North West region.
He added: “Derry Sinn Féin has an abundance of leadership talent as is evidenced by the steady growth of both party membership and the continual increase in electoral support in successive elections.”
In the last election in 2010, the party’s Martina Anderson lost out to the SDLP’s Mark Durkan by 5,000 votes.
Ms Anderson replaced Bairbre de Brun as an MEP in 2012, a seat she retained by topping the poll with 59,813 first-preference votes in last May’s European Election.
