The North West Regional College can play a major role in the regeneration of Derry, the North’s MEP Martina Anderson has said.
The Sinn Fein representative was speaking after meeting the college’s recently appointed principal, Leo Murphy, and Bridgetia Kelly, from its business support centre, to discuss plans to develop the college.
Describing the meeting as “positive,” Ms Anderson said among the topics discussed were “exciting developments” planned for the college, such as closer co-operation with the University of Ulster at Magee.
Ms Anderson added: “Education can play a major role in the regeneration of Derry and the wider north west. I am committed to supporting educational institutions for all levels of learners with courses tailored to meet the demands of a changing modern economy.”
She said increased co-operation between the College and Magee would create additional opportunities for young people in business and the creative industries.
She concluded: “Huge possibilities exist in Europe to support and develop our further and higher education sectors. I will continue to work to ensure the best possible educational outcomes for young people and the local economy.”
