Three men, believed to be from Derry, are due to appear in court today charged with the armed robbery of a post office in Donegal at the weekend.
The three, aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested by Gardai after robbers, armed with a knife, a hammer and a sledge hammer or hatchet, held up staff at Manorcunningham Post Office close to the Derry-Donegal border at around 10.15am on Saturday.
A Royal Mail postal van used by the gang had been hijacked around 25 minutes earlier in the Nixon’s Corner area on the outskirts of Derry.
The men were later arrested close to the border in the village of Killea after being alerted to the van hijacking by the PSNI.
They are due to appear at Letterkenny District Court today.
