Cllr Sandra Duffy.

Cllr Sandra Duffy.

Sinn Féin councillor Sandra Duffy has condemned a petrol bomb attack on a car as it was being driven in Derry.

The device was thrown at a black Peugeot 307 car as it was being driven by a woman along Glengalliagh Road on Friday night last.

The woman was not injured but was left badly shaken by the incident.

Cllr Duffy said the attack “must be condemned.”

She added: “This must have been a very frightening and traumatic experience for the woman driving the car.

“It is only through good fortune that she was not injured and that her car was not damaged.

“Whoever was behind this attack should consider what the consequences could have been.

“These types of attacks need to stop before someone is injured or worse.”

Cllr Duffy concluded: “I would urge anyone with information on this incident to bring it forward to the PSNI.”

PSNI Inspector Sam Shearer has appealed to anyone who saw the incident to contact police.

He said: “I would ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact Police at Strand Road on the non emergency number 101.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
