fountain_derryThose responsible for attacking a house and mural in the Fountain area of Derry at the weekend have been condemned by Foyle SDLP MLA Mark Durkan and Sinn Fein Cllr Patricia Logue.

They were speaking following a number of weekend incidents in the Fountain and Bishop Street areas during which a mural was attacked and windows smashed,

Mr Durkan said: “I strongly condemn the malicious actions of those responsible for these attacks.

“They do absolutely nothing to further the vision of a shared future or contribute to the strengthening of relationships between our communities.”

Cllr Logue has called for those behind disturbances  to stop immediately.

Describing what happened as “totally wrong,” she said: “It’s important that the message goes out to whoever was involved that it was totally wrong.”

“We cannot allow these sorts of senseless actions to occur in this day and age nor be used to heighten tensions in and around the greater Bishop Street/Fountain area, which is something no one wants.”
