Derry has the lowest pass rate for learner drivers, newly released figures show.
From April to June 2014, the pass rate for all categories of Driving Tests was almost 59%, an increase of just over one per cent on the same period last year.
The most notable change in pass rates was for the Motorcycle L Test, which rose by just under five per cent from 68% to 73%.
However, the pass rate for Private Car L tests was 57%, ranging by Test Centres from 45% in Altnagelvin in Derry to 72% in the Downpatrick.
However, this overall pass rate takes no account of differences between the driving experience of individuals presenting for testing at each Test Centre.
The figures, released by the Department of the Environment, also showed males had a markedly higher pass rate (63%) than females (51%).
From April to June 2014, over 13,100 Driving Tests were conducted by the Driver Vehicle Agency (DVA) – this is 5% higher than that from the same quarter last year when the figure stood at just over 12,500;
In April to June 2014, there were 11,116 Private Car L tests conducted. This is three per cent more tests (313) conducted than in the same period of 2013 when there were 10,803 Private Car L tests.
The largest percentage increase in Tests conducted was Motorcycle L tests, which have increased by approximately half (49%) when compared with the same quarter for 2013 when the number of tests conducted was 463.
