Brothers Gary and Stephen Mac Lochlainn recovered from a mediocre start to win Saturday’s Winter League competition at North West Golf Club.
Despite a stiff cold wind and playing off the “backmarkers,” scoring was exceptionally good, with the strong pairing of brothers Gary and Stephen, both playing off seven, taking first place.
Things didn’t look good when they only had five points after four holes, but birdies at the sevent, 16th and 18th rescued the round with a total of 40 points.
Steady Terry Meehan (6) and Eunan O’Boyle (12) took second place, just a point behind.
Club captain Bosco Reid (11), partnered by Hugh Duffy (11), came third with 38 pts.
“Twos” were scored by:
Colin Barlow at the 8th hole
Patsy McLaughlin (8th)
Derek McDowell (8th and 16th)
Stephen Mac Lochlainn (16th)
Eunan O’Boyle (16th)
Micky Mc Laughlin (16th)
P J Mc Carron (16th)
This Saturday sees the start of the Christmas Fayre competitions and on Sunday sees week two of the Winter League.
