NIHESinn Féin councillors Jay McCauley and Maolíosa McHugh have met with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive to receive an update on the progress made on the backlog of maintenance works in the Strabane area.

Speaking after the meeting Cllr McCauley said he welcomed the progress that had been made so far by Omega on the backlog of maintenance works on Housing Executive properties.

He added: “In the two weeks since a Sinn Féin delegation met with senior housing executive officials, Omega have completed around 125 of backlog jobs and over 130 new jobs. Five C.O.T jobs have also been completed.”

Cllr McHugh said he had been assured by the Housing Executive that they were “confident” Omega were capable of completing the blackly in the six week timeframe that had been sent out as well as dealing with the “current maintenance crisis.”

He concluded: “We commend Omega for the good standard of the work that has so far been carried out. We will be meeting with the housing executive every 2 weeks to receive their progress reports.”
