Sinn Féin MLA Michaela Boyle has welcomed progress on several cross-border issues following the most recent meeting of the North South Ministerial Council.

The West Tyrone MLA said Council had reaffirmed its commitment to the North West Gateway Initiative.

She added: This was set up to encourage economic growth in the Strabane, Limavady, Derry and Donegal areas, which have suffered from chronic underinvestment in the past.”

Ms Boyle said progress was also made on “enhancing” cross-border connections in the North West area with further opportunities for transport co-operation identified.

She concluded: “An effective all-Ireland infrastructure system is vital to growing the economies of border areas such as north-west. Sinn Féin will continue to campaign for increased all-Ireland co-operation in all areas.”
