The establishment of the Foyle and Finn Rural Network group, which has been set up as an umbrella group out of the Riverlinks Project, has been welcomed Derg Sinn Fein Councillor Maolíosa McHugh.
Cllr McHugh, presiding councillor (chairperson) of the Derry-Strabane “super council” was speaking after the first meeting of the group.
He said the formation of the group would “open up opportunities” for European funding for projects such as foot walks, cycle paths etc.
So far, the group consists of representatives from community groups in Clady, Castlefinn, Bready and Killygordan, and will be broadened out to other community groups along the Foyle basin.
Cllr McHugh said: “This group will provide a basis for community groups to influence the direction of EU funding with projects similar to the highly successful Greenways project in Mayo.”
He concluded: “I am looking forward to the new initiatives and projects which will come from this group.”
