There has been widespread condemnation of the placing of a bomb outside a house in the Ballyarnett area of Derry.
Police said the “suspect object” found outside a house in Ballyarnett Village yesterday afternoon was a”viable device.”
Around 30 families were moved from their homes during the alert.
Sinn Fein Councillor Sandra Duffy, who visited the scene, said the incident was “very upsetting” for local residents.
SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney said the alert had caused “real distress” for local families.
He added: “This is a completely unacceptable and senseless incident in what is usually a very quiet area with many young families. “
Cllr Tierney appealed to anyone with any information to contact the PSNI “as a matter of urgency.”
