A Derry group which supports women and children who are or have experienced domestic abuse is one of seven groups in Derry sharing in a £675,76 grants windfall from the Big Lottery Fund.
Awards for All offers community, voluntary and statutory groups the chance to apply for small grants of between £500 and £10,000 that will have a big impact on local communities and the lives of people most in need.
Foyle Women’s Aid has been awarded £10,000 through the Awards for All programme to run a series of outings and social events so families affected by abuse can come together, share experiences and learn coping skills.
Lincoln Courts Women Together, which organises activities for women of all ages, is to receive £7,040 for its cross-community Empowering Local Women project to run educational and vocational activities to bring women together and reduce social isolation.Activities include crochet, healthy eating classes, educational day trips and a residential.
Brother Scott Goligher Memorial Orange Lodge has been granted £4,320 to run the Moving Forward project which will see made improvements to the hall to allow wider community use and run IT classes.
Newbuildings Primary School is to use £8,894 to provide a range of after-school clubs in partnership with local community organisations to increase children’s learning and development. Activities include speech and language, dance and drama, and outdoor play.
Community Action For Locally Managing Stress (C.A.L.M.S) Ltd, the organisation which supports people suffering from stress to improve their mental health and well being, has been granted £9,775 to run a range of activities and programmes to help people cope with challenges in their lives.
Apprentice Boys of Derry Parent Club is to use £8,618 to run trips and activities for the local community including history classes, a trip to the Somme Centre and a centenary event to mark its 200th anniversary.
