Sitting MP Pat Doherty looks set to be selected as the Sinn Fein candidate to contest the West Tyrone constituency in next May’s Westminster election.
The party will choose a candidate at a selection convention to be held in Omagh this Wednesday night.
At the close of nominations at midnight last night one nomination had been received and that was for sitting MP Pat Doherty.
Born in Glasgow to Irish emigrant parents, both originally from Donegal, Mr Doherty elected as Assembly member for West Tyrone in the 1998 elections and was chair of the Enterprise, Trade and Investment Committee in the Assembly until Peter Mandelson collapsed the institutions.
He was elected MP for West Tyrone in the 2001.
