Cllr Angela Dobbins.

SDLP Councillor Angela Dobbins has described the overnight shooting and burning of a car in the Ballyarnett area of Derry as “madness.”

No one was injured but the family left badly shaken after a shot was fired through the front door of their Cornshell Fields homes just after midnight. The family car was set on fire and destroyed,

Condemning those behind the incident, Cllr Dobbins said: “This was a completely reckless attack in a built up residential area, and it is extremely worrying for people who live there, and indeed everyone in the area.

“Thankfully, no one was injured in this madness. Whoever is behind the attack must realise they have absolutely nothing to offer society and there can be no justification whatsoever for what happened.”

She concluded: “I appeal to anyone who knows anything about the incident to contact the police.”
