Clare man Padraigh Hutton has been chosen by the FAI to referee the FAI Ford Cup Final between Derry City and St Patrick’s Athletic at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday week, 2 November.
The 37-year-old refereed last season’s EA Sports Cup Final between Shamrock Rovers and Drogheda United at Tallaght Stadium.
He also officiated Shamrock Rovers’ friendly defeat to Liverpool in May of this year.
Sutton said he was “honoured and proud” to be taking charge of his country’s major domestic cup final.
He also said he was “very excited” about refereeing in the Republic Of Ireland’s national stadium, once more.
He added: “Being appointed to referee your own domestic cup final is the greatest honour that can be bestowed upon an official so I am absolutely delighted with the appointment and looking forward to refereeing in the Aviva Stadium,” Sutton exclaimed.
He will be joined on final day by assistant referees (linesmen) Ciaran Delaney and Wayne McDonnell), who are both from Dublin.
Paul McLaughlin, from Donegal, will be the fourth-official.
