A quantity of tyres to be used on a Hallowe’en bonfire have been seized in Limavady by the town’s Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) and the local Borough Council.
Speaking after yesterday’s seizure, NPT Sergeant Ian Hunt said it was an offence to carry out activities including keeping, recycling or dismantling waste materials without a permit.
He added: “We don’t want to spoil anyone’s night but burning tyres on a bonfire is very hazardous to your health and continues to cause problems after the bonfire with the sharp wire innards that have to be picked up and taken away.”
