PSNI forensic officers examining the scene of Sunday night’s bomb attack.

The follow-up operation following the weekend bomb attack on a police mobile patrol in Derry’s Creggan estate in Derry has ended.

Families who had been evacuated from their homes have been allowed to return and traffic in the Circular Road/Creggan Heights area is flowing freely.

The area had been sealed off from yesterday morning while police forensic officers carried out a detailed search of the area following Sunday night’s attack.

Police have defended the length of time they took to respond to the incident and refuted allegations of heavy-handedness during the follow-up operation.

Last night officers came under attack from up to 100 youths throwing petrol bottles and stones.

Three teenagers, aged 13, 14 and 16, were arrested.

No one was injured in the disturbance.
