The announced by Transport Minister Danny Kennedy a £140,000 major resurfacing and traffic calming scheme for the Ardan Road, Culmore in Derry is to begin on Monday next has been welcomed by SDLP Cllr Angela Dobbins.
Preliminary work on a 364 metre section of the road between Culmore Road and its junction with Coney Road will begin on Monday next, 10 November, with the main resurfacing being undertaken between 8 December and 17 December.
Works have been phased in such a way so as to maintain access to Hollybush Primary School at key times during the school day.
However, at other times between 8 and 17 December the road will be closed to through traffic.
The scheme is expected to be substantially completed by 19 December.
Cllr Dobbins, a member of the board of governors at Hollybush PS, said the safety measures would be welcomed by parents and staff.
She added: “The safety of the children attending this school is paramount and is presently a nightmare for both parents and residents alike.
“I have been given assurances that work will be completed before Christmas and whilst there will be delays and inconvenience for residents this will be for a short period, and access for local traffic shall be accommodated.”
