The PSNI in Derry have released a copy of a “scam” letter (below) being sent to Derry householders informing them they have won hundreds of thousands of pounds in worldwide lottery draw.
A police spokesperson said the letter or similar have been received by a number of people in the city recently.
The spokesperson added: “This is a scam. If you receive one of these letters please contact police on 101.”
The letter, from the “Fifa Euromillions Internaiontal Postcode Lottery Program” informs the recipient they have won a tax free lump sum of £700,000.
It states the draw was held to help promote the Commonwealth Games and that the “winner” was selected by computer from 80 million “individuals worldwide.”
To claim the “prize,” the letter lists two telephone numbers and fax number and adds the “winner” must claim their prize before 21 November next, otherwise the “entire fund” would be returned to the “UK Board of International Revenue.”
