Destined, the Derry-based learning disability charity and Body Mind Soul Events Ireland have teamed up to promote the Kindness Card, designed to encourage people to perform a random act of kindness to either a friend or, preferably, a stranger.
World Kindness Day takes place on Thursday, 13 November next when each and every time you perform a random act of kindness, you give the person a Kindness Card.
Dermot O’Hara, manager, Destined, said: “Hopefully, this will encourage others to perform another random act of kindness.”
An act of kindness can be offering a nice word or comment to someone using all of those lovely, “soft” words that are in our vocabulary, words such as caring, thoughtful, loving, sympathetic, gentle, considerate, warm, compassionate, understanding, forgiving, friendly, tender, unselfish, generous, helpful, supporting or nurturing.
Mr O’Hara said: “These are words that acknowledge, respect, join, unite, words that build bridges between us.
“The act could also be helping someone with their shopping, crossing the road, giving up your seat on a bus, buying food for a homeless person or someone in need.”
The cards are free and you can pick up some from various outlets around the town including the Destined Centre on Great James Street.
You can also collect cards at the Body Mind Soul Holistic Festival taking place in the Guildhall, Derry this Saturday and Sunday.
