Derry City Council will next week provide free Furniture “Paint Transformation” workshops at a number of venues across the city.
The initiative is part of the European Week for Waste Reduction EWWR 2014 and members of the public are invited to bring along a piece of furniture to paint during the “fun” workshops
Julie Hannaway, the Council’s Waste and Recycling Officer, said the workshops were designed to breathe life into tired but loved, old furniture using chalk paint.
She added: “We will supply all the paint, brushes, wax, sealers, enthusiasm and expert advice! All you need to do is bring along your small piece to paint whether it is a chair or a picture frame and start painting! It’s as easy as that.
“This is a hugely innovative and exciting project which we hope to continue into the future.”
The workshops, which will be facilitated by Catriona Jones from The Olive Tree, will take place on Tuesday next, 25 November, from 1.30pm until 3.30pm at the Pilots Row Centre on Rossville Street; Thursday, 27 November, from 2.00pm until 4.00pm in the 4R’s Reuse Workshop at Pennyburn Industrial Estate and on Saturday, 29 November, from 11.00am until 3.00pm at Cumber House in Claudy
Places are limited and registration in advance is essential.
