Santa Claus has left the North Pole on his way to Derry to turn on the city’s Christmas lights tonight.
Thousands are expected to pack Guildhall Square and Waterloo Place for the big switch at 7.30pm.
Forecasters are predicting a dry evening but wrap up warm as temperatures are expected to dip to as low as six degrees centigrade.
As well as the city being illuminated, two Christmas trees – one in Guildhall Square and one in Waterloo Place – will be lit up.
Both locations will have a stage each with Sensation providing the musical entertainment in Giuldhall Square with Portabello appearing in Waterloo Place, both taking to the stage at 6.15pm.
Radio Foyle presenter, Mark Patterson, returns as MC.
The music will continue until 8.00pm following the switch-ons.
Also, the Peace Garden in Foyle Street will be transformed into a Frozen Forest where children can meet cartoon characters including Elsa from Frozen, visit Olaf’s igloo, enjoy face painting, and take family pictures at the giant snow globe.
Entry to Guildhall Square will be via Custom House Street and Magazine Gate and access to Waterloo Place will be via Waterloo Street and Strand Road.
Designated viewing areas for people with disabilities will be available in both Guildhall Square and Waterloo Place.
