Two Derry women have been given suspended prison sentences at the city’s Magistrates Court for claiming over £12,000 in benefits they were not entitled to.
Wendy McMonagle (45), of Glenabbey Drive, claimed Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £10,438 while failing to declare employment.
She was given a three month prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £43.
Majella Heaney (40), also of Glenabbey Drive, claimed Income Support, totalling £2,307 while failing to declare employment.
She was given a one month prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £31.
Both are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
