Two teenagers were arrested at a underpass tunnel in Derry last night.
The arrests came after a call for increased police patrols at underpass tunnels in the city following last weekend’s serious assault on a 15-year-old girl by a man at an underpass tunnel on Racecourse Road, also in the Shantallow area.
Last night’s arrests were made by officers from the PSNI’s City North Neighbourhood who detained two 15-year-olds for disorderly behaviour at an underpass tunnel at Madams Bank Road in the Shantallow area.
Following the arrests, police appealed to parents to be aware where their children were at night.
A spokesperson said: “We would appeal to parents to find out where your children are at night and know the dangers they exposing themselves to.
Following last week’s assault on the young girl, local SDLP Councillor Angela Dobbins had called for “urgent action.”
She said as such tunnels could not be closed adequate lighting and more frequent patrols were “a necessity.”
