Van torcedFour elderly people have been left “badly shaken” after masked raiders ransacked a farm house near Strabane at teatime yesterday, police have said.

Detectives  are appealing for information following the incident which occurred just before 6.00pm in Tullymoan Road area of Clady

The incident began when four masked men approached an elderly man in his 70s in the farm yard of the property and forced him to the ground. As a result the elderly man sustained a minor injury.

The raiders then made their way into the property armed with a grape which they picked up in the farm yard.

Inside the house they threatened three other elderly residents in their 70s, 80s and 90s and ransacked the property before making off with a small amount of cash in a black car in the direction of Clady.

Appealing for information, PSNI Detective Sergeant Brian Reid said the intruders were all dressed in black and wore balaclavas.

He added: “The four elderly persons have been left badly shaken by this ordeal.

“I appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Tullymoan Road area or noticed a black car acting suspiciously in the area today or over the weekend to contact CID in Strabane on the non-emergency number 101.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
