The people of Derry have been called on to support the Christmas and New Year blood donation appeal.
The blood donation service are due to attend Clooney Hall in the Waterside on 5 December and at Rafters on the Northland Road on 18 December.
Sinn Fein Cllr Colly Kelly has urged as many people as possible to support this year’s blood transfusion campaign “Be a star for someone this Christmas.”
He said: “You always think of patients needing blood transfusions in the event of road accidents but rarely do we think of people with medical conditions needing treatment all year around.
“There is a lot of pressure place on the Blood Transfusion service. They have said that the need for blood is constant, with 500 patients in the north needing transfusions each week, but at this time of year it can be particularly difficult to maintain their blood stocks.”
