Sinn Féin have reiterated their call for the removal of the Castlederg barracks following the announcement that the five hours it is currently open per week to the public will now be ceased.
Cllr Ruairi McHugh said the announcement “only reaffirms” Sinn Fein’s position that the retention of “this militarised” barracks did nothing to achieve civic, accountable and effective policing in the Castlederg area.
He added: “It serves no purpose in the local community and is merely an eyesore and a huge drain on the PSNI’s financial resources, with over £115,000 being spent on maintaining the site over a two year period.”
