IT has been hailed as a Christmas showpiece centre to rival any other on the island.
But it appears the prices at the Ebrington Square festive fair are driving the people of Derry potty.
Tourists and locals alike – some of them anyway – have given the thumbs up to the attraction which includes a pop-up cinema known as the Festive Film Factory, a Festive Fun Fair, the Spiegeltent Bar was doing a roaring trade alongside the LegenDerry Ice Rink and the Christmas market stalls selling crafts and foods from around the world.
However many Derry Daily readers say it’s too expensive.
“It’s a beautiful place, but as usual far too expensive. £12 for 2 hot dogs !!! £2.50 each for the duck game !! I was expecting to see Santas grotto there too. With 3 young children it was an expensive trip out,” complained one reader (who also praised the event).
Ryan Gallagher said it was an expensive day – or 40 minutes for him.
“Went over today. Complete rip off. £50 lasted 40 mins,” he said.
Jake Barrett said: “A joke, nothing there; just taking a hand out of Derry people.”
And Rachel Campbell complained: “It’s not great, but the bar in it seems to be making a fortune – £4.00 for a pint and £4.00 for a hot chocolate.
“I don’t drink so I won’t be in the bar. The stalls are just what you expect. Mass produced products and sold as hand made unique pieces.”
However some readers disagreed.
Paddy Ward insisted: “No real difference to the market in Belfast and I’m sure Derry people who visit it think it’s brilliant! Usual everyone loves to complain in Derry…”
