Detectives from Serious Crime Branch investigating paramilitary activity in the Dungiven area have arrested a 59 year old man in the town this morning.
He has been taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
He is Sinn Fein councillor Sean McGlinchey.
Detective Chief Inspector Una Jennings, from Serious Crime Branch, said: “We are investigating various forms of paramilitary activity in the Dungiven area, predominantly over the last four years.
“These include shooting incidents and threats.”
A 60-year-old man was arrested in Co Antrim yesterday in relation to the Dungiven probe.
He has been released unconditionally.
