Derry’s city centre will be buzzing with festive activity as the first Festive Frolics event takes place this weekend, with plenty of Christmas fun for all the family.
Organised by Derry City Council, the events will see a whole host of colourful characters take to the streets for a weekend of festive themed activities, including the stars of Frozen, Christmas carollers and some special visitors from the North Pole.
Speaking ahead of the event Mayor of Derry Councillor Brenda Stevenson said there would be plenty of activities for all ages.
She told Derry Daily, “The Festive Frolics event is the perfect way to spend the afternoon and get into the Christmas spirit, with storytelling, children’s crafts, music and animation.
“It’s the ideal opportunity to take a break in between shopping, and treat the children to some festive entertainment.
“We have so much going on throughout the city in the build up to Christmas, with our Christmas Village at Ebrington Square, pantos, Santa’s grottos, not to mention Christmas concerts – Derry really offers a magical family Christmas experience.
Bridie’s Cottage in the quaint Craft Village is the starting point for all the weekend’s seasonal shenanigans, with some fantastic Christmas craic with Elfin, Ella and Elvis, Santa’s mischievous helpers who have gone awol ahead of Christmas.
And enjoy some magical Christmas tales from the North Pole courtesy of Mrs Claus herself, who will reveal some of Santa’s secrets and the story of Rudolph’s smelly socks.
Get creative this December with some Christmas Crafts in the Tower Museum, part of Derry City Council’s Crafts Programme. Make some beautiful origami Christmas trees and learn how to write your name in Japanese, the perfect addition to your festive decorations.
The Festive Frolics will take place on both Saturday and Sunday, December 6th and 7th, and December 13th and 14th, running from 1pm – 5pm. Tickets cost only £1, giving access to all the events, and can be purchased from the Tower Museum.
