Mayor Cllr Brenda Stevenson has welcomed a six-month pilot project aimed at supporting farming and rural families to tackle financial stress.
Mayor Stevenson said she was supportive of any initiative that offered help and support to those experiencing financial difficulties and stress.
She said: “There are many people who are experiencing debt or financial issues relating to their farm business and stress is also playing a big part in affecting their mental health and well- being. I am delighted that Rural Support have acknowledged the problem and taken positive steps towards addressing it. As part of the pilot programme they will provide free, face to face sessions with a finance mentor who will support families to address farm business debt or financial problems and help identify a way forward.
“Individuals who are experiencing added pressures during this uncertain and difficult period and are in need of some advice and support please encourage them to contact Rural Support’s confidential helpline on 0845 606 7 607,” she added.
The project is funded by the Public Health Agency through the CLEAR project.
