Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has said that the Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy needs to ‘get real’ about the A6 and the building of the Dungiven bypass.

Speaking after a debate in the Assembly Mr O hOisín said: “Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy needs to get real about building up the infrastructure in the North West and cannot continue to hide behind excuses of looking at different routes when deferring the building process.

“The people of the North West have seen several projects especially the A6 and A5 being put off time and time again while other projects East of the Bann move to the construction stage.

“The Minister needs to be more forceful in deciding that these projects now proceed at a quicker pace.  Not only is the infrastructure needed but it would actually create an economic stimulus to the entire region if they move to the construction stage.

“I will continue to push the Minister until such time that he signs off on these projects and that the people of the North West get the infrastructure that will allow for economic regeneration of the area.”
