Former Derry City player Mark McChrystal has shown he is as competent stopping opposing attackers as a goalkeeper than he is as a centre-half.
The defensive powerhouse is renowned for his ability to curb the threat of strikers.
However, McChrystal was forced to play a different role for Bristol Rovers as they earned a 0-0 draw with Wrexham.
McChrystal was forced to go between the sticks for the last FIFTY minutes of the clash.
Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke admitted after the match that not naming a substitute goalkeeper in the match day squad was a mistake.
However, thanks to McChrystal’s heroics the decision never came back to haunt Clarke as his side earned a valuable point.
McChrystal was given the gloves when goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall was forced off due to injury.
The former Derry City man performed heroics for the rest of the match and was given a standing ovation by Bristol Rovers fans as he left the pitch.
