Serious concerns have been expressed over the large volume of traffic at Pennyburn Primary school.
The concerns were raised at today’s meeting of Derry City Council by SDLP Cllr Angela Dobbins raised concerns
Cllr Dobbins said it was only a matter of time before a child would be seriously hurt at entrances to the school.
Cllr Dobbins said “Following correspondence from the principal and also witnessing the irresponsible parking of parents dropping off the pupils, I feel it has become necessary that action be taken at this primary school and St Brigids Secondary School also, where there are similar issues.
“I raised these issues with Conor Loughery, Divisional Manager for Transport NI who was presenting to council on Tuesday. As Derry City Council’s representative with WELB I am extremely fearful that we will have to wait until another young fatality occurs before a resolve can be reached.
“At the next WELB committee meeting I will be echoing and supporting principal Eamon Devlins concerns and will forward our suggestions on how to resolve the situation.
“I hope Transport NI and WELB will work together and act sooner rather than later on these problems.”
