A 36-HOUR storm with winds reaching up to 80mph will blast into the North West on Tuesday evening – and continue until the early hours of Thursday.
There are fears of power cuts and travel disruption, especially at the peak of the storm tomorrow.
The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Derry and the rest of the North.
A similar warning has been issued for Ulster by Met Eireann.
Gales, severe at times, are likely to affect the North from Tuesday night, during Wednesday and at first on Thursday with a risk of storm force winds. The strongest winds will slowly ease on Thursday morning.
Waves will be unusually high, bringing the risk of localised flooding of roads and causeways, particularly on northern coasts of Northern Ireland. Frequent wintry showers will also bring an additional hazard, mainly over higher ground.
“The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel and perhaps also power supplies,” said a Met Office spokesman.
The picture is a predictive picture of the swell in the Atlantic on Wednesday.
